The early middle Eocene transition at the Esera valley

چکیده

An integrated study including magnetostratigraphy, larger benthic foraminifera and calcareous nannofossil biostratigraphy is presented herein. This work was performed in shallow marine siliciclastics rich foraminifera, around the Ypresian/Lutetian boundary Ésera valley (South-Central Pyrenees). Although content studied interval low, not allowing a precise Y/L to be recognised, taxa found are enough support chronostratigraphic attribution. Data obtained section has improved knowledge of (Nummulitesand Assilina) distribution through chron C21. SBZ 11 12 transition took place at lowermost C21r, as shown previous works. assemblages extend into C21n, where 13 occurs. These data, siliciclastic facies, with situ fauna, results shift 12/SBZ Lower Lutetian, younger than previously believed. Accordingly, occurs 12.

Microbiostratigraphy of Middle Eocene ShahbazanFormation at the southeastern flank of Chenar Anticline,Lurestan Basin, Sw Iran

In this research, biostratigraphy related to the carbonate succession of the Shahbazan Formation at the southeastern flank of Chenar anticline, Lurestan Basin, is discussed. A study of large benthic foraminifera from the 294 mthick Shahbazan Formation led to the identification of two Middle Eocene biozones: Somalina sp. Zone, Nummulites-Alveolina Assemblage Zone. The age of the Shahbazan Format...

West Antarctic paleotopography estimated at the Eocene-Oligocene climate transition

[1] One generally recognized limitation of models for rapid growth of Antarctic ice near the Eocene-Oligocene transition is that they are based on present topography, corrected only for removal of modern ice. For West Antarctica, this results in large areas below sea level that would not readily host ice. In the recently active West Antarctic rift system, other factors may have contributed to s...

Larger benthic foraminifera from the Middle Eocene

Larger benthic foraminifera (LBF) are common and diverse throughout the Paleogene sediments of southern Tanzania, but have previously been little studied. A recent programme of onshore drilling known as the Tanzania Drilling Project has recovered large proportion of this succession for palaeoclimatic and palaeontological study. The sediment is largely a hemipelagic clay with secondary gravity s...

Application of Well Log Analysis to Assess the Petrophysical Parameters of the Early Eocene Sui Main Limestone (SML) in Kharnhak-1 Well, Middle Indus Basin, Pakistan

The petrophysical analysis of the early Eocene Sui Main Limestone (SML) has been conducted in Kharnhak-1 well for the prospect of the hydrocarbon exploration of the Khairpur-Jacobabad High, Middle Indus Basin, Pakistan. The petrophysical analysis of SML is carried out on the basis of well logs including gamma ray, spontaneous potential, resistivity, neutron, and density logs. These analyses lea...
